How decisions are made

Editorial and Recommendation Policy

A useful recommendation states the assembly, conditions, evidence, uncertainty, commercial relationship, and date of the check.

Assembly before product

Content begins with the building area, existing condition, moisture source, air and vapor strategy, safety boundary, and alternative materials. A contextual link to exact-product research can appear only after those checks.

Source hierarchy

  1. Applicable law, local authority, official model-code and listed-assembly records.
  2. U.S. government health, safety, energy, and building-science guidance.
  3. Exact manufacturer label, SDS, TDS, evaluation report, test report, and warranty.
  4. Documented field observations and qualified expert review.
  5. Secondary explanations for context, never as the sole support for a high-risk claim.

Product recommendation bridge

Spray Foam Guides explains the appropriate material or product format, then may provide one contextual editorial link to Best Spray Foam. Exact product names, ranking positions, variant cards, scoring, and retailer research remain on our sister publication. We do not mirror its rankings or present its research as an independent endorsement of our work.

A product can be excluded even when it ranks highly if the application, format, documentation, or safety boundary does not fit. Stock and price are not shown here by default.

Commercial relationships

Related ownership and possible commissions are disclosed close to recommendation modules. Retailer affiliate links use appropriate sponsored-link qualification. Advertising is labeled and cannot interrupt safety warnings, tools, print checklists, or failure-response steps.

AI use

AI tools may help organize research questions, draft code, identify consistency issues, and propose language. AI output is not a source and is not represented as field experience, a licensed opinion, or a real reviewer. Pages must be checked against the cited documents and the site’s safety language before publication.

Updates and dates

The modified date changes only after a meaningful content, source, method, or recommendation update. Each publication maintains the dates for its own research. Safety and code-sensitive pages are queued for source review at least every six months and whenever a cited source changes.

Hard prohibitions

  • Fake authors, credentials, tests, photos, quotes, awards, or first-hand experience.
  • Universal re-entry time, thickness, vapor, fire, or code claims detached from the exact product and assembly.
  • Commission-driven rankings or hidden related-party endorsements.
  • Copied or lightly rewritten content across Spray Foam Guides and Best Spray Foam.
  • Programmatic state or city pages without maintainable local evidence.
